The Hire Me! Workshop
Dean Hendrix and Michelle Zafron, two librarians at the Health Sciences Library at UB (Abbott Hall, South Campus), have put together an incredible workshop for the LIS students working for them. This workshop is an in-depth, comprehensive lesson on finding a job in an academic library, but most of the concepts and details are applicable to any library job setting (frankly, any job setting at all). In order to make their efforts to help UB LIS students go farther, they have placed the booklet for the workshop online.
Hire Me! Finding an Academic Library Job is one of the absolute best resources for LIS students seeking to get a leg up in a tough job market. It covers everything from the initial job hunt, to resume preparation, to salary bargaining during an interview. Worksheets to guide your understanding of each section are dispersed throughout the document. Also included are extensive appendices covering likely interview questions, questions you as the interviewee should be asking, how to spot discrimination, and more.
Please take a look at it.
